I'm looking on Summit for some steel crawler wheels and they have Cragar, US wheel, American Racing etc. I've searched but can't find anything on which might be strongest/most durable. Despite the added strength, BEAD LOOK wheels are out cuz you guys would laugh me off the board right? Any opinions?
bead locks rock and no we would not.
i have procomp steel wheels and they are SUPPOSE to be the strongest cuz well 4wheelparts thinks procomp is the best ever but i got a good deal on them.
my last ones were uswheels and they held up fine. and my friends have american racing and they are fine and still holding up fine. crager are the only ones i have not used.

Dude if I could afford bead LOCK wheels I'd be all over it, even though I'm not good enough to know whether I need them or not. Yeah I was talking about bead "LOOK" wheels. Aren't they stronger than non-bead look wheels because of that trim ring? Also I want to go with 33x12.5 15" tires. Do I need to run a 10"wide wheel or can I use an 8"?

The fake "beadlock" rims are gay.
Sh1t gets stuck inside that inner lip and its a b1tch to clean.
I dont think they are stronger than any other rim but what do i know. :1shifty:
If you want real beadlocks for cheap, go find some cheap steel rims and buy a set of weld on beadlocks for 200 bucks.
If your going below 5 psi on the trail than you need them. If your above that your pretty safe.
edit: oh and remember that the weld on beadlocks add a couple inches to your width. Which is a good thing in most casses. :werd:

I have no Idea if the fake bead lock wheels are any stronger then regular wheels. You can run 8" rims with a 12.5 width tire, but they will wear better on a 10" wide rim.

On the subject of the weld-on beadlocks, there are a lot of different options about the number and sizes of the bolts, whether you need an anti-coning ring or not and if so, what material it should be made out of(steel/nylon somethin). Maybe I'll just take it on faith and get the same ones you guys have used. Any suggestions?
they have weld on bead locks that go over the lip of the bead or under depending on what type of welder you are useing.

I don't want to cut the wheel, I'm using a lincoln pro-mig 135 (120volt) that gets pretty hot. I think I'd prefer one where you just lay the inner ring on the outside lip of the wheel and weld. I'd heard there are some that require you to trim the outer lip of the wheel, I don't want to do that.

I think I'm going to do weld on beadlocks like you guys said. I put a wanted ad for the steel wheels I want to start with in the wanted section. I've got a set of the chrome steels but I don't like them. Anybody know which beadlocks weld to the outside of the wheel without grinding it down?

Longfield makes weld-on beadlocks, as does Rockstomper. Give both of them a call.
There is a thread on pirate regarding 2" BS steel wheels from Summit..its 10+ pages and has part #s for exactly what you need. They are under $50 from what I understand but come unpainted.
Do a search over there.

**THE 2" Back spaced wheels are reversed , meaning the rim is backwards to the mounting face of the rim
You will then lose the inner bead while wheeling (at low psi) and putting locks on a 2"bs rim would be point less..........
Just get the steel rims......... and be happy

how wide a tire can I run on a stock rim? I want to build something similar to the formula toy but a four seater and not for competition, using 32 33" tires, how wide a tire can a stock toy wheel handle?

A 12" tire will go on............. But Discount tire will not mount a tire that has a wider tread face that the rim is wide.......
All that means is on what you want to do with it you will be fine
