Okay I blew my motor the other day and now I have a few options. I can either buy a fj 40 motor thats mildly built for 1200..Headers and a weber and HEI igintion....Or I could rebuild my 2 F, but I haven't been able to find parts for this engine at the local auto parts where I work. Or I'm thinking a 350 cause I can get a 350 for cheap. So what do you guys think? Should I just drop in a v8? If so what all do I have to change. I'm thinking motor mounts, radiator and getting an adapter plate from advanced adapters. If I decide to do the swap, what am I forgetting? Thanks

drive shaft mods possibly and numerous things that will nickel n dime you to death.id go with that 2f.a 350 cant touch the bottom end grunt of the old 6.you wanna go fast put 350,you wanna go slow put 2f.my 2f screams along real nice and i wouldnt change it out for a 350 no matter what.
check IH8MUD.COM you will find everything you need to know there.

I heard that I can use a crossmemeber and the motor mount perches from an early to mid 80's blazer for the 350 swap, is that true? Also rolldyota are you saying the 2f has more torque than a 350?

at low rpm.hell yeah.the torque curve on a small block starts at higher rpms.but thats just stock 2f vs. stock 350.there are plenty of things you can do to get the torque you want out of a 350.but when its all said and done you will be well into the thousands of dollars with the 350 when you couldve just put in another 2f.and spent the extra coin on what really counts like gears, lockers, that kinda thing.

Yeah putting in a 2f would be idle but seeing how I'm not finding them for cheap I'm going with a 350..The cheapeast I found a 2f for was close to 2 grand and thats a short block with an unknown mileage. And long blocks with lower miles is close to 4 grand...So the way I see it I can drop a complete running lower miles 350 in and get gears and lockers for the same amount as dropping another 2f in..Thats my thought anyway.

I've heard a 350 is lighter than a 2F.

what about this. the 87-90 lincoln mark 7 has a ford 5.0 with mass air flow.
you can get one for around 1500$ ish ( less junk yard 700$) and if you use the mark adapter from advance adapter you dont have to move the transmission or do drive lines. You will need the bellhousing, motor mounts, and i think one other thing like a clutch mount or something, total around $1500. This engine weighs around 420 .lbs. thats 100 lbs lighter than the 350 and several hundred pounds lighter than the 2f. hp is approx 230 hp and torque is 300 ftlbs. vs 2f with 135hp and 210 ftlbs. remember this engine is fuel injected and you KNOW that RULES. thats what im talking about. Ill be in the same boat some day if my 2f ever dies. Long live Toyota. I recommend getting the whole car because with high tech motors you need all the parts you can get from the original set up like fuel pumps, computers, sensors etc.etc. etc . It will be more complicated than a 2f rebuild but probably really really cool.

ok ive found out i was was wrong about the 5.0 with mass air. It is a 5.0 HO which is the same engine as the mustangs but it is a speed density motor which is not the same as the mass air engine. the difference being the way the ECM controls the engines timing fuel etc. However, the engine would still work well and is far less $ than a mustang engine, and chevy 350 motors. I have also been told that it will not get as good as fuel mileage as the chev 350. :spanka:
