My new truck turned on the check engine light a couple days after I bought it. I was freaking out thinking it was going to be something bad. So I drove it very carefully home. I called a local Toyota dealer so see how much it would cost to have them plug it into the diagnosis machine, $45, that doesn't include ANY repair. So I decided to try Autozone, they plugged right into it with their scanner and told me it was a P0171, the left bank was running lean so my 02 sensor was bad. I went to Checker to get the 02 sensor because they match prices and beat it by %5. I paid $120 for ONE 02 sensor, went home and installed it. The truck was still acting funny. It would loose power if you floored it compared to 3/4 throttle. I decided to look around hoping it wasn't something very serious. I found a website that suggested cleaning the MAF. I went to the store and bought a $3 can of electornics cleaner and took apart my intake. The sensor was coverd in an oily dirt. I cleaned it and re-installed it, and the truck purred like new. It even has a bit more pep now. Full throttle puts you back in the seat like it should. I figured I would post the fix for the problem incase anyone else had the same code show up. Too bad I already paid $120 for a new sensor when all I needed was a clean MAF.
