Is it just me, or am I in here a lot with engine troubles?

Okay, my toy is running really bad. Idleing, there is a slight miss, you dont really notice it unless you are listening to it.

A lot of the time when you accelerate, the truck like lunges, or sputters, mostly in 2nd and 3rd gear when under power, and rarely it will backfire. If you drive it for a while it will stop, I drove about 100-200 miles to the beach and back and it didnt do this. It feels like if you rev it up it will stop, even though it doesnt, like something is caught in it. Is this something serious? For some reason I am getting the impression that it is fuel injectors or something to that nature. Also is it okay to drive it?

I really do love this truck and it will be fixed!

run tank really low pull it out and clean the crap out of the bottom and change the fuel filter sounds like something is floating in the tank stopping fuel flow if you have sediment in the tank it can block the pick up sometimes and do that or you could have a bad fuel pump if it running like crap I would rig up a way to check the fuel pressure while driving. Keep in mind fuel under pressure is needs proper hose for proper pressure

i have been having the same kind of problems for several months intermittently. i have an 88 efi standard cab p/u. after pulling the tank i found the inside clean and in good shape but the positive wire going to the pump was corroded and hanging by 3 strands where it enters the cap at the top. when i pulled on it, it imediately broke? I had already done numerous fuel pressure tests, replaced the regulator, and filter, and replaced the distributor (related to an engine code) I am now in the middle of trying to get another pass-thru for my fuel tank. (Dang Utah road salt)

just cut it back short and solder it if you can with shrink wrap

i took the pass thru to work and glass beaded it to remove all the green rot. i then soldered a new wire onto it, and wrapped it with heat shrink. i also lengthened the wire harness and zip tied it to the top so the wire won't get pulled out. i then sealed the top with a special grey silicone. (sold by intl to seal older powerstroke oil pans)I work as a diesel mechanic by the way. i then replaced the fuel pump, strainer and sending unit with new and reinstalled the tank. after driving for a day it threw a code #42 and #21.(88 toy efi, 4 cyl.) after checking on the #42, i replaced the vehicle speed sensor assembly that is on the speedo,( i replaced the whole instrument cluster) with one from a local wrecking yard, cleared the codes and test drove. no more problems so far, and it runs alot better.

Glad things worked out!

I went to go get a tune up, and it turns out that my rotor, cap and sparkplug wires were all fried (literally fried)!!! They replaced all of that + sparkplugs + 3 new belts!!! It runs great, much much more pickup and acceleration!!!!
