1985 4runner tailgate release cable

looking for a tailgate release cable on my 1985 4 runner, the passengerside one froze-up....and it then broke :dunno: .........went to the junk yard yesterday, some one had cut both cables on that one to get the window regulator out..........anyone have one to sell????...or where to find one////////////thanks for all replies :redspotda

use a cable that is used on bike brakes to fill in the broken spot,good luck

make sure the tailgate is unlocked. The release is in the upper corner of the tailgate. Pull it towards the center of the tailgate & down towards the bottom. the latch will release.

see pictures. I put a D-ring on my cable because it broke loose too. now I just pull both sides at the same time & it unlatches.

i got mine rigged now too..wish i could find a used cable :dunno:

go to a bicycle store. Take a piece of the old cable with you.
They have the cable there for bike brakes. Use that

sorry i havent been on the computer for awhile but you can get a thin peace of aluminum and crip the cables in it. this should hold, heck mines been like that for awhile and it hasnt broke yet. have fun :grin:
