are there different shifters for trans and transfer for different years ? other than shape or lenght ?

I know for sure yes on the tranny shifters. A shifter from a W56 would not work in my G52 tranny.

thats interesting. my 86 4runner knob worked on my 83 shifter. i have a marlin knob on the tcase shifter on my 83 and on my current 85dd

The threads for the knobs are the same. The bottom part that goes into the tranny is different.
