If I go with a 4"to 5" suspension lift. What size body lift would you guys suggest. I am worried about center of gravity since I am in a 4runner. And while I am asking questions got one more. I am going to have this bad ass welder build me a tube bumper with winch mount. And I was wondering which is better welding it to the frame or using bumper-mounts. Or does it matter?

no body lift and do a nice trim job. If you plan on useing a winch build off the frame. 4 5 inches of lift is alot. I did a 4 inch and im running 40's. 35's tuck fine on a stright axle and rears up front. 3 inch all pros in the back.

I agree skip on the body lift and trim your fender.

Are you guys saying that cause of the center of gravity? Or because you dont like body lifts? If I cut the fenders what do I do with edge do you roll it somehow? Sorry for so many questions but I really like what you guys have to say.

I have a 3" body lift and 4" (ish?) suspension on my 4runner
IMO a body lift is great on a 4runner because the sliders and rear bumper will be easier to make stronger......
Weld the bumpers to the frame.......
get a body lift from http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/BodyLiftKit.shtml with his larger bolts you cant go wrong
cutting your fenders wont really gain you that much, what you really "need" to do is "bash" in the firewall for more tire clearence in the front.... *edit your still IFS?? ....do the body lift

I wish I wasn't still IFS but it will just take time and money. I want marlin leafs
all the way around. When you say bash in fire-wall do you mean the
fender-well? I like the idea of body lifts because of easy axcess to the frame. For things like frame sliders I would rather not cut the fenders.
THANKS for the LINK.

I have 3 body lift and a 5 suspension lift on my truck. The truck came with the body lift and I opted to stay with it for future engine upgrades. other than that I would not have the body lift and trim. :redspotda

On a straight front axle (with the shackle at the back) when the suspension compresses it moves up and to the back (as the shackle compresses) So on a Straight axle truck the tire will rub at the fire wall....... thats also why we move the axle forward ........

The reason i say trim is because not only do you gain tire clearance but it keeps the COG down. That and body lifts through everything out of aligment
(steering shaft, fan shroud, hoses.) Also causes un needed strees on the body. To me its easyer to build a slightly angled gusset to the frme for sliders than have to worry about the small stuff. That and theres nothing worse that seeing a huge gap between your frame and body. :werd: thats just my 2cents.

this may be stupid but how does trimming the fenders keep the center of gravity low?

Trimming the fenders does not in itself lower the cog. What it does is allow you to run larger tires with less lift.

So with a 5" susp lift the fire wall needs some work. What is a good size tire for 5" lift?

Not all body lifts are equal :1shifty:
No need to do the fire wall if you have IFS

My 91 PU has a 4" susp kit plus a add a leaf out back and the torsions up a bit. So about 5". Clears 33s well, 35s might fit but the 33s fit perfect. You can do diff torsion bars up front for a couple more inces too, then throw a bigger block out back and run 35s comfortably without trimming I think
