I would like to do a 3 link suspension in the rear of my 85 runner, but can not get any info on where to start. Please send pics if you have one, or if you know where I can buy one, also what is the differnce in 3 link and 4 link. Thanks Jason

4 Link will cost you more cash. 3 Link is way cheaper. 4 Link 8 hiem joints =$$$. 3 Link 1 hiem and one Johnny joint =$. (you can use two hiems if you want) They both work great. I have seen guys with both and who have had both and they wheel about the same, 4 links seem to have more flex but its really close. OMHO. Good Luck

Search the Pirate BB, all vehicle types, and you will find a ton of info.

Most crawlers prefer a trriangulated four link which consists of 4 seperate bars, 2 are parallel and usually sit near the outside of the axle tube nearest to the tires and mount to the frame. These control yaw, and allow mad up and down movement. The other two are mounted in a triangular pattern with the two closest ends usually mounted in some fashion on the top of the axle tube above the 3rd member and then mounting on the frame forming a triangle. (we all know triangulation is the strongest shape). These allow for crazy articulation.
A 3 link has the same two parallel bars but the 3rd link looks like a wishbone and instead of having the 2 seperate bars mounting in a triangle above the 3rd member, they are welded together where they meet. but the triangle "tip" is flipped around towards the cab and the widest part of the triangle welds to the axle tube. usually a johhny joint is used on the "tip" portion. There are also different variations of this.
Hope that helped a little. 3 link will be cheaper in the long run. Rod ends arn't cheap $$$$. And if for some reason you drive it alot you will be replacing them at least once a year. Johnny joints IMO are the future. Who can disagree with 60 degrees of chub inducing travel! :redspotda

I think the length was around 19"....without any of the vehicle weight on it...
the spring compressed about 3" at ride height..you could fab the spring pad and upper mount to give you any amount of lift you wanted...
