Hey all, I am pretty new to this site and dont have much if any experience with vechicle mechanics aside from changing my oil. Anyways, im gonna have SAS done on my 92 runner, and a pretty sure im going to go with marlins kit. But what i need to know what exactly im asking for when I call the auto wreckers. From what i can tell i want the axle housing, and its internals. What about the hubs? Or what should I be asking specfically, i dont want to sound like an idiot and want to have the right parts shipped up as im dont plan on sending them back because it is going a fair distance. Also any toy 4x4 solid front axle will do right, i read that 83-85 is the most desired year for strength. Any thing else i should know? Would it be best to contact the shop im gonna have this done at and get them to tell me everything im going to need to round up? Thanks
84-85 toyota truck or 4runner front axle assembly.
meaning from hub to hub u want it all.

You only know how to change your oil and you are going to do a SAS? Have fun with that one. Why are you getting a SAS anyway? Sure solid front axles are cool, but are rarely NEEDED unless you are doing tough rock crawling. It should be a fun projcet though. Have fun.

yeah.... an SAS is a BIG first project to take on...... you should probably take on a smaller one, what kind of wheeling do you plan on doing? The SAS could be a really good learning experience but expect to have a few mistakes and frustations, make sure you have enough and the right tools too

whoa whoa whoa.....
I don't think wyatt meant to make you feel like that bro. Regardless though, you have to understand, comming from the point of view of the people on this board, not many of us have a lot of cash laying around, being as such you have to learn to do things on your own. Some learn to do it for fun. Most of the time isn't easy learning how to modify your vehicle, and to have some one that states that they don't know much about vehicles post a message that they want to do something very technical as their first attempt at modifcation. Especially to someone who's researched the crap out of their vehicle first, which it kinda looks like you don't have too much research in.
But its ok to ask questions, shit that's how I learn best, realize this, people who own toyotas take pride in their vehicles and most of the toyota owners here do all their own work on their trucks. That's what sets us aside from jeep owners who pay to have their vehicle modified, that's why Toyota owners have a bigger sense of pride over their vehicles, not to mention loyalty not only to their vehicles, but to people who feel the same about theirs.
well may i add my .02 ?
i read the first post and i knew he was haveing someone else do it.
also he is new here and i think people are allowed a few mistakes, but if he was going to attempt it i think we could of pmed him or said something to the effect of
changeing your oil is a 1 on a scale of 1-10 and a sas is like a 5-7 man so maybe you should pay someone or have someone help you thats done it or have a fabricator help you.
just my thoughts and if the admin pops in he will probably delete some of these posts anyways.
also luke man dont take it so personal... thats sorta wrong to say for me because i take it all personal as well. but just so you know i KNEW NOTHING about fab work until i did my sas. we took our time and had 1 good welder and one good artist guy ( both friends) and my truck is pure custom and we did it and it turned out great. its all functional but some stuff is not what you call pretty fab work.
but now that we have done it we would do a way better job the second time as far as fabing up good stuff that looks nice and is strong.
all im saying is he wants someone else to do it because he doesnt want to screw his ride up that he has pride in. and im poor and did my own and it was custom and i dont have a 3000 dollar bill laying around.
also whos is doing your sas ???
get the marlin kit if you can afford it.
and give the shop your keys
the marlin kit
your truck
and the money

maybe he has hit its limitations, real or imagined. You don't have to wrench onit to know that you need more.

Get the trail gear SAS kit, it's $1100 shipped. With the full blown SAS kits it makes the swap alot easier because it includes pretty much everything you will need. The trail gear kit even includes an axle rebuild kit.
That's what I'm doing. My costs (axle and full SAS kit) will be $1250 plus some random stuff.

I second the 84-85 Toy axle.
Hell, just read as much as you can about doing a Toyota SAS get a torch and welder and do it yourself the kits have made it so easy. I used the Allpro kit and it went smooth just cut, bolt and weld. If you can assemble a bicycle out out the box, "you can do it"

Have you heard any input on how those springs work? are they made by sky? if not who makes them?

I believe they are the same springs that Marlin uses.
