I got a 4 runner 1994 w/ 22RE & i want to increase HP, cause' i feel that the truck is too heavy for the small L/4 motor. i used to drive a 4.0 and i miss the take off.

if you want it to be a little quicker, put 5.29s or 4.88s in the axles, but that really doesn't increase hp but makes you seem like you can go faster!

You have an 94 with a 22re? You are the luckiest kid ever! I looked forever to find one of those. Count yourself lucky that you don't have the v6. Anyway, sell your truck to someone who will appreciate it for what its got in it and get something with more power. Those things are rare. But if you want power, Toyotas aren't really the place to look. They are underpowered for a reason. Why do you think they last so long? If you wanted to try an engine swap, I would say the 3.4v6 from a Tacoma would give you more than you could ever need. I don't think superchargers and turbos are worth it on the 4 cylinder and people are usually overheating or blowing head gaskets.

what wyatt said and yes your are a lucky man.

but for more power try 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust and other than that lower gears and maybe some better air flow.

I agree with Wyatt, I would love to have a 94 with a 22RE. 22RE's are capable of a lot of power but it is expensive and somewhat complicated. I would recommend reading up on it. Here is a good artical on high performance 22R/REs: http://www.toysport.com/ Go to the "Tech Info" section and look under engine modification for the 20R/22R/22R-TE. It is a good artical and will tell you basicly what to do.

Her old 87 had 2.25" and it had more power and got better mileage with much higher mileage on the engine. I'm running 3" on my 85, but it's running WAY more engine.

Get a different motor and sell me that one. 22RE arent built to be horsepower monsters. Its a 4 cyl. If you are going to be fourwheeling it and you give it any more power than its got than you better have a good supplier of burfields on hand cause you will need them.

I'm running just a tad more power than normal

I have broken about 9 in the last 12 months. Granted, the only terrain the truck sees other than the trail is the metal on my trailer but as many as I have been through and also my buddies, I wouldnt want much more power than stock. The burf is THE weakest link (excludint the push/pull steering of the straight axle models) on those trucks when it comes to four wheeling. That was why I asked

I have to admit that the main reason that I haven't is because of the ARB. If my wheel isn't straight, the ARB is off. I have been very careful because I don't want to break one. I am running over 3x the horsepower and even more torque than stock, but the auto also helps. It is not as harsh when giving gas. There's quite a bit more finess with the auto, in my opinion. The only thing I've broken so far has been several 700R4s and the rear R&P. It took me a while to find someone that could build a 700R4 that would hold up to the engine, and the R&P was my fault. I didn't get the pinion set right when replacing the seal :frown:
