Actually, depending on what year it is, it can be a good swap for a mini to get rear disc brakes. And gears are available for it.
But it's no stronger than the stock Toy rear axle, so it may not be worth the effort.
if its a clip axle then toy rear is stronger.
depends which locker.. if its a detroit then ya score if you payed less than a 100 bux. its should be a decent swap depending on width of the axle.
what size tires you plan on running ?
The axle came to me for free, i'm not sure what to do with it. if i were to put it in my truck, i run 35"/37" tires. if i were to put it in the car ( '86 4runner ) it would be 30s.

I had one in the rear of my Rodeo when I still owned it. The disk brakes were nice. It wasn't a wheeling rig so never had any problems with breakage or anything. The stock motor was a 3.2 liter V-6 with 190 HP, and 31 inch tires. It had 4:30 gears stock since it had 16 inch wheels, the ones that came with 15 inch wheels had 4:10 gears.
I wish i had 4.10 axle, this one has the 4.30 gears

Also remember Rodeo's are sprung under in the back so you would have to weld on new spring perches.

My daughter's ex-99 Rodeo ( She now has an 02 4Runner ) was rear coils. Never had a problem with the axle, but at 80k it needed an engine. And that was with regular maintenance :thumbdown

Our Rodeo had 177,000, actually almost no repairs at all from the day we bought it at 133,000. It needed some work when we traded it in though, it was just more work then I wanted to put into it, so it went bye-bye.

She purchased hers used, so that may have been part of the problem. We had to replace quite a few parts over the 3 years she had it. Her husband didn't take my advise on getting a Toyota and went for the Isuzu instead. ( I don't really blame him for not wanting to talk to her dad about advice on cars and stuff. I would have hated to always need to ask my father in law for advice  ) She got the 4Runner after it started smoking pretty badly and was losing a lot of oil. She grew up driving our Toyotas and knew what she wanted.
