I've had several mini's with 22re's and currently have a 93' 4x4 but I've been interested in building a tacoma and could use a little info from those who have owned both. How reliable are the 4cyl and V6 motors (forgot the designation) in the tacomas? Does the 2.7 tacoma motor feel a lot stronger than the 22re? What kind of gas mileage would one expect in a stock extra-cab tacoma? Does anyone know what an x-tra cab mini with a 22re weighs compared with 4cyl and V6 tacomas? How much clearance is there for big (37+) tires on a tacoma vs a mini (assuming trimming and ripping off bumpers with minimal lift)? I'd really appreciate any advice you guys could lend. Thanks
iv owned a few
22re multiples
3.0v6
3.4v6
2.7 i4
and they all are great except the 3.0 the 2.7 didnt seem to have much more power than the 22re but it was hella better than the 3.0
for crawling a tacoma is sorta sucky, because its a driver side drop front end. so you either need to buy adapter after adapter to make it pass side drop for a toy axle or run a jeep or ford style front axle.
but if you really want build a tacom get the 3.4 v6 and a d44 HP front or a d60 HP front and do the sas.

Anyone know the weight of the tacoma's vs early pickups. I think I weighed my 85 extra-cab with 35's at about 3650, does that sound about right?
ya mine wieghts about 4000 91 extra cab 22re with 42 iroks.

Yeah, it sucks about the driver's side drop, plus I hear that the t-case isn't as strong. I don't have a very heavy foot though so that isn't much of a concern. Only thing I ever broke was the crappy stock steering arm on my 85'. I've seen a couple guys run unimog axles that have a drivers side drop, I've leaned towards doing that, it costs about the same (sometimes less) than doing dana 60's. It really comes down to $$$. :bluecryin

Does anyone know much about tire clearance issues between tacoma's and mini's? Like I said, I want to keep it as low as possible, I had 35's on my last crawler with only 3" of lift and it was nice and stable.
yu wont run the taco tcase
u run a 22r tcase with an adapter.
