i've been hearing rumors about some full size deisel and i'm just wondering if anybody knows any facts about it? is it gonna be a tundra option or are they making a whole new model? also what kind of torque and horse power? is it gonna be able to compete with ford, chevy, and dodge?

its gonna be bigger then the tundra. and yes its suppose to compete with the big boys.

i heard 2008 is the first year it will be introduced.

im hoping to have 5-10 thousand saved up for a down payment on one.

Toyota owns Hino of Japan. Hino is a huge name in big-over the road- type trucks...think buses, trash and dump trucks. So in reality, Toyota has been making very heavy duty trucks for a long time, just very few imported to the US. The new Diesel personal pickups will likely be Hino powered and be a direct competitor to the Powerstroke/Cummins/Duramax crowd. In fact, I believe they will introduce a truck that will bump the bar up a notch. The Tundra, from what I have heard, will get a redesign and possibly a hybrid option but otherwise will still be light duty--I can't wait for the Hino truck but for now, I am enjoying my new DC Ltd.

does anyone else see a resemblance between this "hino" truck and the mega cruiser?

i wonder if this truck will have a solid front axle, might make for a pretty bad ass toyota full width/one ton axle upgrade

iv been looking at tow rigs for a little while, i wanted a tundra but didnt think it would be strong enough. the diesel would be a great option.

For anything under 7500#'s, it is a good choice, particularly if it also pulls duty as a DDer! I am extremely pleased with mine and my 4Runner on a trailer. It pulls hard and gets good mileage too.

what kind of gas milage do you get while pulling your runner? my buddie hass been thinking about getting a tow rig and he does like the tundra but its a tough call between it and a titan. i love toyota but the titan is a pretty good truck

with my 05 tundra i towed my 7000 pound rig to moab and kept up with the the deisels pulling a lighter load no problem i would recommend a tundra but only the 2003 or newer cuz they have a bit bigger motor.... stopping wasnt a problem either. add a rear overload though.

but i have a cheap diesel truck now that was very well taken care of (91 dodge cummins with almost 300000 mile) and it does tow a bit better cuz of the leaf springs and the weight of the dodge helps keep the trailer straight.

but my tundra could out tow it on a getting up and go speed and keeping the speed up

The Titan is a nice truck but I am a Toyota guy. How would that look towing a 4Runner behind a Titan? :thumbdown
The wheelbase of the DC Tundra is also a big advantage to long distance towing and makes for an extremely cush ride. I also have a WD hitch and would never even think of towing a load without it. Also Prodigy controller.
And the motor is the same size in all Tundra's- a 4.7 but the '05's have the variable valve timing--similar to Honda's VTEC. Makes it more economical and makes way more power when you rev it out. When towing, I leave the OD off and let it rev and it holds hills at 65-70 mph. That is 13,500 pounds people! I get about 12 mpg towing and 12 or 13 city driving. I can't keep my foot out of it! My best tank was about 17 or so on the highway--running 80-90. But I am still breaking it in-- only had it for 6 months or so. Has 10,000 miles on it. Use mobil 1 synthetic 5W30. I love Amsoil stuff but it is more expensive (4Runner gets that stuff) and I will only keep the Tundra for 3 years or less.
Hopefully the HINO will be available by then!

I'm a bitch at the local toyota dealer and I know for 2007 that they are planning to put a 5.7l or 350 in their newer trucks that will make lots of power, a hybrid is also on the way. The newer truck will be fullsize to compete with american trucks and a diesel or hybrid diesel will be offered. The Nissan Titan will also go fullsize a few years after the new toyota to compete with Toyota/Ford/Chevy/Dodge.

yota fan!

nissan made a public statement saying they plan to release there diesel full size in 2009...psh, look how expensive the tundra and titan are though. then you make them a 3/4 or 1 ton and add a diesel. thats just gonna be rediculously expensive, and diesel fuel is rediculously expensive. at least that is my prediction. it is hard to say until i see one, but for right now my favorite is still the cummins baby! duramax's are dang sweet, then somewhere far far away in a distant galaxy the powerstroke is trying to catch up.

The new Tundra will be pushing 400 horsepower and can literally tow a dodge hemi when they are chained together with both petals to the floor. The diesel is still a few years out unfortunately... most likely 2008. While they will release the new Tundra in February or March 1, expect the full line of new Tundra's available sometime in the spring.
