Can I swap out my 22re with a stock diesel motor (both trucks are the same year) without changing everthing? And is it even a good idea for a wheelen truck? I really dont know much about wheeling a diesel..

this is exactly what i just posted in the "toyota diesel" thread:

"any of the "L" series diesel engines (1L, 2L, 2L-T, and 3L) will bolt right up to a 22r bellhousing. the only ones of the bunch that really make enough power to be worth it in a 4wd are the 2L-T (turbo) and the 3L (non-turbo), but you will definately have to change gearing if you are going to be doing any amount of hwy driving as they both have less HP than a stock 22re. they also use the same engine mount location as the "R" series engines so the swap is pretty much bolt in with minor modifications. one thing to look out for is cooling, if you are going to be running these toyota diesels in a hot climate (south west, for example) you will need to install a EGT gauge and possible upgrade your radiator and/or add an intercooler. there have been numerous reports from Oz of crack heads on these diesels, primarily as a result of too much heat. Also consider that if you are swapping the diesel from a 2wd into a 4wd you may run into problems with oilpan clearance if the 4wd is 86+ (IFS). i dont think trucks with Solid fronts are as big a concern.

if you are still interested and want more/better info than I can give you, check out Totota Diesel Madness BBS . there is a wealth of information there and alot of knowledgable guys who have already done diesel swaps into toyotas."

As always, more information is helpful. what year are the two trucks? what engine/transmission combos do they have? 4wd or 2wd?
